SAT-7 CEO speaks at JESUS Film Project briefing

By special invitation, SAT-7 Founder and CEO Terry Ascott spoke March 20, 2010, at a briefing in Bonita Springs, Florida sponsored by The JESUS Film Project. He was introduced by his long-time friend and Campus Crusade for Christ Middle East Regional Executive Director, Henri Aoun.

Terry informed briefing attendees that by the 1980s, television had become the primary source of information for millions in the Middle East. And by the 1990s, satellite television technology became widely available. Such technology, Terry noted, made establishing SAT-7, founded in 1995, an obvious and essential choice for a region where one-half the population cannot read the front page of a newspaper and where several of the most closed countries of the world are located. Terry said the potential for reaching the masses with the Gospel has only gotten bigger, because today some 98% of the 550 million people of the Middle East have access to television.

Terry shared statistics indicating that in the past three years, SAT-7 has programmed either the “Jesus” film, the children’s version of the “Jesus” film, or the specially made film for women, “Magdalena,” some 82 times in Arabic, 124 times in Farsi, and 92 times in Turkish, along with a few showings in French and a couple of other languages. SAT-7 received responses to these programs from over 50 different countries in the form of emails, text messages, chat room comments, etc. More than one-half of these audience responses came from women.

Terry concluded his presentation by sharing a series of powerful, poignant, and encouraging viewer stories indicating how God worked in viewers’ lives after they saw the “Jesus” film or other SAT-7 programs. The JESUS Film briefing audience received Terry’s presentation warmly and expressed special appreciation for the partnership SAT-7 and The Jesus Film Project has enjoyed for many years.
