Jim attended college at Hutchinson Community Junior College, in Kansas. From Hutchinson, he transferred to Grace College of the Bible, now known as Grace University. His interest in Missions began while attending Grace University where he graduated in 1980 with a Bachelors of Science degree with majors in Bible, Missions, and Christian Education.

Jim and his wife Deb were married in May of 1980. Together, they have served for over twenty five years in various roles both in the Middle East and in the US. Their focus of their outreach has been on assisting the Church in the Middle East.

Jim has also served for four years as Pastor of a rural church in Mapleton, North Dakota. Jim and Deb have three children, Joshua, Jared and Esther. With SAT-7, Jim serves as Director of Church Connections for the Eastern USA.
