From a divorced family and addicted to drugs, Reverend Danil Miltan can relate to feeling hopelessness; Hopeless that things can ever really change. “When you are addicted, people never, ever believe that you can come out from it,” Miltan remembers. One statement transformed his life.
Today, Reverend Miltan is a well-known presenter of the live Farsi program, Our Neighborhood. Every week, Miltan encourages millions of viewers facing impossible situations including drug addiction, poverty, and unemployment. When he was a teenager, Miltan’s life looked remarkably different:“I came from a divorced family [living in Iran]. At 17, I became addicted to heroin for ten years.”
His life felt like it was limited. Then, his brother Eddie came to him with words that broke down the barriers. “Eddie came to me, and he told me that Jesus could save me and heal me. And that was the first sentence I had heard that was really full of hope.”
OVERCOMING HIS DISEASE
Eddie was only 12-years-old when he told his brother that there was hope. These words were full of the limitless possibilities Miltan needed to hear.
“I immediately asked him, ok, what can I do? He said, “you have to come to our church.”
After some hesitation, Miltan accompanied Eddie to church. “I was impressed with how they [the congregation] loved me. That affected me, and that was the reason [that I came to know Christ]. I went back to my father’s home because I was away from my father’s home. They accepted me.” Miltan recalls. In his father’s basement that evening, Miltan gave his heart to Christ and watched as God healed his soul.
Now, Miltan shows the 4 million young addicts living in Iran that they can be limitless. “There are 4 million young people addicted to heroin in Iran. You can find drugs everywhere. The thing is, addiction is in your mind and whole life. That has to be released.” Miltan works with programs like ‘Our Neighborhood,’ where he can counsel those in need of help. Miltan’s words of hope and redemption have reached millions of families affected by the disease of addiction, through SAT-7 programming.
Like Kia, who says, “I’ve gone through so much in my life. There have been many problems within my family, and my addiction has caused so much damage. I praise the Lord for brother Miltan and this network for helping me through it all. Please pray for me.”
We can all be limitless with Christ who strengthens us. Whatever we may face, we can grow in our faith and overcome the obstacles holding us back. We must not lose hope. As Milton reiterates in his favorite verse, Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
