May 31, 2016, marked twenty years since the first broadcast of SAT-7. We—SAT-7 and Women for Middle East HOPE—all remember the anticipation, the nervousness, and even the fear we had as our first two hours of programming were recorded in someone’s kitchen. No one dreamed that God would abundantly bless this tiny seed. Yet, He did.
This is SAT-7 today: We operate four twenty-four hour channels broadcasting seven days a week. Reaching individuals through countless programs in three languages, Arabic, Farsi, and Turkish, it is a work of the Holy Spirit. Thanks to your prayers and support, SAT-7 is able to reach people across the social and demographic spectrum in the MENA region wherever they may be located.
But, how? SAT-7 is committed to engaging and innovatively addressing the technological, social and political changes that surround us. That is why we develop programs, apps, and counseling services that meet the need of our viewers.
HIRA FROM TURKEY
Dennis Wiens, Director of SAT-7 USA Church Connections, experienced this. While checking out of his hotel after a busy week of meetings and informational session, Dennis was puzzled. The woman who checked him out of his room had a different, strong accent. It was not a typical accent for the area. So, he checked her nametag to learn that she was from Turkey. Her name was Hira. What happened next shows that God uses all things for good.
As Dennis thanked Hira for her help, he commented that he had recently been in Turkey for a SAT-7 conference. Interested, Hira asked why. And Dennis began to describe SAT-7. During his description, Dennis pulled out his phone and opened the SAT-7 TÜRK app to show her. There, on this little device, was a channel speaking her language. Can you imagine? Hearing your own language after going months, or years, without hearing it?
Hira was in awe. She quickly explained to Dennis that she had heard about this channel. Hira even watched it with her family when she visited, saying that, “We all listened to a ‘Channel for Christians’ and thought the children’s programs to be nice.” Dennis smiled and gave her information about how to access the app and the SAT-7 TÜRK website.
