Life is full of hardships, no matter who you are. The brokenness of this world doesn’t discriminate. Therefore, we look to Jesus for salvation, freedom, and hope. Asma from Algeria shared with SAT-7 how overwhelming life has been. However, that didn’t stop her from pursuing Christ.
Asma shared, “I lost trust in people after my marriage ended. My husband was an alcoholic who humiliated me, and I began to hate life. I asked for help and even paid for it, but I still despised life. I developed high blood pressure. Then, I became closed off.” If this weren’t enough pain, the loss of her father and the failing health of her mother and sister added to the hardships.
She continued, “I live with the pain of deep betrayal and rely on my deceased father’s pension. My mother is sick and in debt. My circumstances are hard, and the pension is very small. I stay at home with my sick mother and my mentally ill sister, who is also being treated for heart disease and high blood pressure. I feel very hopeless. And I cry a lot.” Desperate and feeling lost, Asma contacted SAT-7 in search of hope.
We listened to Asma with care and compassion. We supported her through long conversations, during which we prayed for her, asking the Lord for strength and help. She was deeply grateful for our prayers. We prayed with Asma, and she accepted a relationship with Jesus. Later, we spoke with her about what it means to become a new creation in Christ.
“Thank you. Even though I lost trust in many people who have no mercy in their hearts, I found peace with you. Thank you so much for all the love. I felt comforted by your kindness and nobility. Thank you again. I now realize that Jesus is the Son of God. He has offered me safety and love, and of course, I accept Him,” she said. Amen!
