Easter has always held deep meaning in dark times. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), where many believers live with uncertainty and hardship, the story at the heart of Easter – a journey from suffering to hope – feels deeply familiar.
This year, that message carries a particular weight. As Easter arrives in the region during a time of war, public celebrations of faith are falling silent. In Jerusalem, where Christians traditionally gather at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to mark the death and resurrection of Jesus, security restrictions have limited public gatherings. The traditional Palm Sunday procession did not take place this year.
Easter is a story of hope. Jesus’ resurrection is the promise that darkness does not have the final word. Churches, families, and communities across the MENA will still mark the season. Through special programs, worship, and devotional broadcasts, SAT-7 will accompany believers through Holy Week and Easter on a journey of hope and faith.
Easter Programming
The SAT-7 TÜRK team has recorded two special worship songs for Easter. One takes a quieter, sorrowful tone, reflecting the death and burial of Christ, with singers dressed in black to represent mourning. The second celebrates the joy of the resurrection, with singers in white to symbolize hope and new life at the heart of the Easter story. The recordings bring together staff from across the ministry and will be shared on YouTube.
SAT-7 ARABIC will bring believers a second season of the devotional program Evening Gatherings. Filmed across North Africa – including Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco – the series brings believers together for prayer, worship, testimony, and discussion of Scripture, offering encouragement to Christians across the MENA.
Viewers can also watch a special three-part Easter series from Tunisia entitled Witnesses of the Resurrection. The program combines real-life testimonies with biblical teaching on the events of Holy Week. The three episodes explore how Christians today continue to bear witness to the transforming power of Christ’s resurrection. The program will also include Easter greetings from children in Tunisia and Algeria.
From Egypt, Journey of Light, a new SAT-7 ARABIC magazine program, will accompany viewers through Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. The series follows Christ’s journey step by step, reflecting on the people He encountered, the questions He asked, and answered and the prophecies fulfilled in Him.
A special extended episode of the current affairs program You Are Not Alone will also be broadcast. Filmed in a displacement center in South Lebanon, the program brings together families forced from their homes by the conflict. Adults, children, and teenagers share their experiences of war, their fears for the future, and their prayers during the Easter season. Through worship, hymns, and conversation, the episode becomes a prayer for Lebanon and the wider Arab world: a reminder that even amid conflict, the voice of faith remains stronger than the noise of war.
SAT-7 KIDS will also broadcast a range of Easter-themed programs throughout the week, including Superbook, Chi Rho, The Easter Storykeepers, and The Miracle Maker, helping younger viewers explore the story of Easter.
Alongside its Easter programming, SAT-7 will also share short social media reflections during Holy Week. In one video, words from Psalm 27 are spoken over images of the current conflict: “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?” The passage reflects the confidence many believers continue to hold onto even in times of uncertainty.
SAT-7 PARS will also mark the season with a range of Easter-focused programs throughout the week, including The Easter Experience, Way of the Cross, He Is Risen, and other broadcasts exploring the events of Holy Week and the meaning of the Resurrection.
The Message of Easter
For believers, Easter speaks of life overcoming death and hope overcoming despair; the resurrection is a reminder that darkness does not have the final word.
Across the MENA, viewers continue to share how SAT-7’s programs, worship, and conversations strengthen their faith and help them persevere. On the current affairs program You Are Not Alone, Joana – a mother in the southern town of Qlayaa – spoke about marking the season amid shelling and grief after the community lost their priest.
Yet despite the sorrow, she said they would still celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter as planned. Her words reflect the faith and resilience of believers across the region. As Holy Week unfolds, SAT-7 continues to walk alongside viewers through its programs, prayers, and worship, sharing the message at the heart of Easter: that even in the darkest moments, new life is possible.
