Oftentimes, a new believer is celebrated in parts of the world where Christianity is accepted. There are ceremonies and public events that celebrate the coming of a new believer in Christ. It is an event worth remembering, similar to a birthday or a wedding.
However, in other parts of the world, such as some countries in the Middle East and North Africa, a new believer is often faced with having to change parts of their life. This could include changing their name, moving from their home, or finding a new job.
Darab from Iran shares his experience of what it is like to become a new believer in the Middle East. “I have become a believer, and I have changed my name, and everyone has started to oppose me.”
It is no secret that the Middle East does not accept Christianity. However, despite knowing the consequences he would face, Darab continued his journey to come to faith. He said, “I came to faith as a result of the love of the Father and through the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of Jesus Christ.”
If Darab had become a Christian in another part of the world, he would have likely been met with praise and fellowship for his decision to follow Christ. Instead, he pleads for prayers for him and others like him to stay strong in their faith, to find peace, and to continue their journey as a Christian. “Please do not forget to pray for us,” Darab pleads.
